HOLMDEL, N.J., July 10, 2006 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via
COMTEX News Network/ -- Vonage Holdings Corp. (NYSE: VG), a leading
provider of broadband telephone services, today announced that it has
acquired ownership of three patents from Digital Packet Licensing Inc.
that enable voice over internet protocol technology (VoIP). The three
acquired patents, U.S. Patent Nos. 4,782,485, 5,018,136 and 5,444,707, are
directed to the compression of packetized digital signals commonly used in
VoIP technology.
Vonage states that these three new patents puts them in
control of pending lawsuits against Sprint and Verizon for patent
infringement, and they are now in negotiation with these companies to come
to some sort of cross-licensing agreement. This should really help
Vonage out with regard to the legal trouble they have had lately.
