Sunrocket Has Gone Out of Business

July 17, 2007

Following a few weeks of rough financial times, it appears that Sunrocket could not hold on. Yesterday they apparently fired all remaining employees and shut their doors. Unfortunately, Sunrocket did all this without notifying any of it's 200,000 customers.

It's too early to tell what will come of this, and whether or not some other VoIP company will swoop in and take over Sunrocket's once thriving internet phone service business. In the meantime, Sunrocket VoIP customers are left hanging with poor service or no dial tone at all. Many have already subscribed with other internet phone companies, and those who have not are looking for a good alternative.

Although you never can tell if a company will survive or not, we recommend switching over to Voip.com. This company carries the same low $199 a year price for unlimited service, and is well known for their in-house development team and support staff. Currently, Voip.com is offering a $30 rebate to new subscribers of their annual plan. To claim your rebate, use promotion coupon code LUCKY when you subscribe.

If you don't like what Voip.com offers, you should be ok subscribing with any of the VoIP companies we review on this website. We are in the process of removing all reviews and information about Sunrocket at this time.

Voip.com - More Features Than Any Other VoIP Provider at an Ultra-Low Price

voip.com
Voip.com is an up and coming VoIP provider out of Boca Raton, Florida.  They offer an unlimited residential VoIP plan for $203.40 a year, and there are no extra monthly fees or taxes to pay - ever!  Voip.com also offers a monthly unlimited plan for $19.95 a month.

With the Voip.com unlimited residential phone service plan, you get free long distance calling within the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico.  You also get tons of free calling features (more than any other internet phone service provider) and free softphone service.  The softphone service is something that you normally have to pay extra for, but not with this VoIP provider!

Voip.com is unique in that they have their own in-house development staff, which means you get cutting-edge internet phone service as well as top notch technical support.  Unlike a lot of phone companies who outsource their customer service and support personnel, when you call Voip.com, your call won't be answered by someone in another country - your call stays in the good 'ol USA, and you will talk with someone who understands English!

For those who have a need to make international calls, you'll be pleased to know that Voip.com offers some of the absolute lowest international long distance rates around!

When you decide it's time to subscribe to Voip.com broadband phone service, use the special promo code LUCKY to ensure you get to take advantage of their latest monthly promotional offers.

Sunrocket introduces Cheap Unlimited International Calling Plan

Fast growing discount VoIP service provider Sunrocket announced a new calling plan designed for frequent international callers.  The SunSpots EditionSM is an annual plan that provides unlimited calling within the US, Canada and 41 other countries.  The price of this VoIP plan is only $299 annually.  This is an incredible VoIP deal, which works out to less than $25 per month.  Some of the countries included in the plan are Australia, China, France, Italy, Japan, Mexico City, Portugal, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, and Israel.

The plan includes all of the free features of the regular unlimited local and long distance plan (unlimited calls within US and Canada, plus up to 100 free international minutes per month), like call waiting, voicemail, call forwarding, etc...

With Sunrocket unlimited VoIP, you pay for the service up front and never see another charge - it's all inclusive.  Sunrocket does offer a limited monthly plan providing 200 minutes for $9.95 per month.

Vonage to Introduce V-Phone - VoIP on a Keychain

According to a statement by Vonage chairman Jeffrey Citron on June 26, this well known VoIP provider will be introducing a new device called the Vonage V-Phone any day now.  The V-Phone is a tiny USB stick on a keychain, that includes Vonage internet phone service software.  It is designed to allow subscribers to make VoIP calls from any computer connected to the internet via broadband.  The concept is simple "plug and play" internet phone service.

This innovative device will provide a handy "portable VoIP" solution to subscribers who travel, allowing them to call home from a laptop, friend's computer, or internet cafe'.

The computer used to make the VoIP call will have to have a sound card, speakers, and microphone though, as the incoming and outgoing voice signals have to have these things in order to work.  Users will probably have to remember to bring their own headset (with mic) or a cordless internet telephone of some sort.

Packet8 Soon to Offer Softphone Service

Packet8 (8X8) announced an upcoming new software-based VoIP service, called Softalk.  This PC to Phone service is due to rollout soon, as two new service plans are described on the Packet8 website.  This innovative new service looks like another great enhancement from Packet8 (they are probably the best VoIP provider when it comes to constant improvement and adding new features).  Not only will it provide subscribers with new capability of making VoIP calls from anywhere via their computer, but it has built in Videophone functionality as well!
  • Softalk Basic will most likely be free (although the site does not say), because it involves unlimited worldwide audio & video calls to other Packet8 subscribers (in-network)
  • Softalk Premium will include all the features of Softalk Basic, plus 500 minutes of VoIP PC-to-phone calls, voicemail, a phone number in any U.S. area code, and free E911 service.

Below is a picture of what the Packet8 Softalk software interface looks like:
