Packet8 Internet Phone Service
Uniden UIP1868P Whole House Phone System
If you get Packet8 internet phone service, we highly recommend
purchasing the Uniden Whole House Phone System. Packet 8 currently
offers two excellent phone systems for sale as an option. The UIP1868P
and UIP165P phones were
built especially for Packet8, and are already preconfigured for easy Packet
8 VoIP setup. The base phone also serves as the Packet8 VoIP adapter
and network router. Just plug the network cable from your internet
modem/router into the WAN port on the phone and attach your computer by
plugging one end of the included cable into the LAN port on the phone and
the other into your computer's ethernet port. Setup is quick and
easy - anyone can do it. Here's where to get more information on
Packet 8 internet
phone service or to sign up!
Advantages of a Uniden Whole House Phone System:
- No need to connect your phones to existing telephone
jacks. With this system, you don't use your phone jacks at all.
There is no need to rewire your house for VoIP.
- Handsets only need electricity, so place them
anywhere you want.
- This system comes with one cordless handset, but you
can expand the system as needed. The UIP1868P will handle up to 10
handsets. You can have as many VoIP phones as you need, and put
them wherever you want.
- This system is designed to take full advantage of all
the features of Packet8 internet phone service. It handles caller
ID, distinctive ring, phonebook, 3-way conference calling, call waiting,
etc... The base unit and handsets all have speakerphone capability
as well.
- Packet8 provides all the technical support and
updates you might ever need with this phone system. No need to go
to multiple vendors for assistance.
From time to time, Packet 8 gives away a free phone with new service
subscriptions. See our Packet8 News
and Deals page for information on the current promotional offers and a
coupon code.
To get either phone
system, select it when ordering Packet8 VoIP service. Additional
handsets can be ordered from Packet8 or from many online retailers.
Packet8 VoIP Adapter
If you choose not to purchase a whole house VoIP
phone system, Packet 8 will send you a free VoIP router that you will
use to connect your new VoIP service to the internet with. The
router is a small device that connects directly to your broadband
modem or router, as well as your computer. You can use an
existing telephone with your VoIP service, but it will have to stay
connected to the router.
Using Existing Telephones With VoIP
It is possible to use all of your existing telephones with VoIP
service, but you will need to make some simple modifications to your
home phone wiring first. These modifications will allow your
inside telephone wiring to work just like it did with regular land
line phone service. Many websites offer free information on how
to modify your telephone wiring for use with VoIP, and it is pretty
easy to do yourself. If you're not very handy with wiring, many
local services (including electricians) can handle this task for you
at a reasonable price.
Note: If you want to
use your existing phones and existing home phone wiring with VoIP, you
will need to disconnect your landline phone service first.
The wiring changes you need to make in order to use internet phone
service with internal phone wiring will require you to disconnect the
phone companies wiring at the telephone box where it comes into your
house. You cannot use both VoIP and landline phone service over
the same wiring. |
